Approached to provide a garage at the bottom of the garden to a contemporary design, Quercus were able to provide practical advice and then construction expertise to convert this into reality. Approximately 4.5 x 6.0 metres on plan and with a monopitch roof the building was built in two stages. The first of these was the baseworks forming a concrete slab with a single course of blocks. The second stage involved the erection of a prefabricated kit that was clad on site with corrugated steel sheeting. A decision was made to use sheep’s wool insulation, which is much nicer to handle than other quilts as well as a better choice ecologically. The project was completed in under six weeks for less than £10,000. As anticipated the car is still outside and the building is providing invaluable service as a workshop, store and studio!
